the distance [between] things

‘The Distance Between Things’  is a post-graduate exhibition of artwork, sketchbooks, and practice-based research by final year PME (Art & Design) art teachers and their pupils. It reflects a changing art curriculum and the diverse needs of pupils in secondary school classrooms across Cork City, county – and beyond.

The exhibition brings together the two parallel academic journeys of secondary school students and student art teachers. This interplay creates a reflexive space - a network of temporal and spatial relations - that connects others to others, or others to things. This distance is reflected in the wide range of media and processes incorporated in the work, as well as the diversity among student experiences and the wide geographical space from which the work is drawn.

The PME (Art & Design) is a joint programme delivered at both MTU Crawford College of Art & Design (Department of Arts in Health and Education), and University College Cork. It is a two-year, full-time Level 9 postgraduate professional teacher education programme, that leads to a professional qualification as post-primary teacher of Art and Design. It is recognised and accredited by the Teaching Council of Ireland for the purpose of registration as a post- primary teacher of Art and Design in Ireland and abroad.
