PRESENTED BY MTU DEPARTMENT OF ARTS IN HEALTH & EDUCATION, AND MTU GALLERY AT 46 GRAND PARADE, SUPPORTED BY MTU ARTS OFFICE CONNECT LE CHÉILE ARTS PROJECT FUND

This is the second of the two selected exhibitions from works created by MTU Staff Students and recent graduates from across the university. Selected from the Open Call for Lockdown Creatives, and will be shown at the MTU Gallery at 46 Grand Parade during May & June 2021.

With special thanks to guest selectors - Dr. Michael Waldron, Assistant Curator of Collections and Special Projects, Crawford Art Gallery and Tadhg Crowley, Senior Curator of Education + Community, The Glucksman Gallery.

This project was initiated to share the important role creativity has played in supporting us during the three lockdowns. It highlights the ‘beyond words’ ability of the arts to connect and give voice during the seemingly relentless experience. The arts have connected and nurtured us. They have enabled us to laugh and given us hope.

Featuring work made by - Aidan Coffey, Anne Marie Courtney, Bríd Hefffernan, Creativity and Change, Holly Walsh, Íde Ní Shúileabháin, Jill Dennis, Lucy Buckley, Peggoty Ransley, and Tom O'Sullivan

Engaging with creativity and making during the long days and nights of lockdown has been a lifeline for many of us. From viral videos being shared on WhatsApp to developing new culinary skills in the kitchen, noticing and documenting the minute detail of our 2/5km limits to exploring alternative ways of expressing ourselves.

“Being creative has helped us cope, whether through escapism, offering a different perspective or the space to imagine a healthy future.”

Louise Foott, Head of Arts in Health & Education, MTU Crawford College of Art & Design

This exhibition presents the work of staff, students and recent graduates across Munster Technological University, in response to an open call. Works range in scale and medium: big or small, 3-D or 2-D, still or moving image, music or sound, photography, print, painting, textile, craft, even baking and gardening. As we begin to move forward together from the challenges of lockdown, they celebrate our shared connection with creativity to get us through this past year.

MORE IMAGES OF INSTALLED WORKS TO BE ADDED ON 4TH JUNE.
