Laoi Sinfonia is a newly established chamber orchestra based inCork City, primarily comprising students and staff of MTU Cork
School of Music. Founded by Glen Lyons and Milo McCarthy,
the ensemble was created with the long-term vision of
developing a peer-led orchestra with a distinctive home-grown
identity, while capable of delivering exceptional concerts and
presenting ambitious repertoire, especially repertoire which may
be less frequently performed in Cork yet highly rewarding from
the performers perspective.
Their debut concert, conducted by Milo McCarthy, will take
place in the Curtis Auditorium, on the 11 of April 2026. They
will be presenting a programme consisting of Wolfgang
Amadeus Mozart’s Don Giovanni Overture, Francis Poulenc’s
Sinfonietta (1 mvt.), and Felix Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 3
in A minor - the “Scottish”.
The event will be free to attend, with a collection box in support of Down Syndrome Ireland.
