MTU Arts Office is delighted to announce the next Creative Breaks Lunchtime Workshop series for MTU staff, offered at NMCI, MTU Bishopstown Campus, MTU Kerry North Campus, and Sharman Crawford Street this February and March. 

The Creative Breaks Lunchtime Workshops are free introductory sessions facilitated by professional artists, presented by MTU Arts Office and Sample Studios.

Bookbinding, with Elize de Beer

NMCI, Map Room

1-2pm, Tuesdays from 18th February 2025 (6 weeks) 

Join artist Elize de Beer for a practical introduction to a range of creative bookbinding techniques, including accordion books, zines, pop-up cards, map fold booklets, pamphlet binding, and Japanese stab binding.

All materials are provided.

Dance Fitness Social, with Roman Polastoliy

MTU CCAD, Sharman Crawford Street, Foyer

1-2pm, Thursdays from 20th February 2025 (6 weeks)

Come move with Roman, one of our BAMT (BA Musical Theatre) dance lecturers at MTU Cork School of Music, in a fun and energetic dance fitness class. No partner needed — just bring yourself and get ready to learn some steps, make new friends, and burn some energy!

Arts & Crafts, with Anne Lambe

MTU Bishopstown Campus, Library Conference Room

1-2pm, Thursdays from 20th February 2025 (6 weeks)

These six workshops, one per week, provide a creative and hands-on experience for participants of all skill levels.

Table Centre Piece workshop guides participants in crafting a beautiful 3D floral arrangement using layered card petals, with options to add gold paint and contrasting centres.  In the Autumn Leaf Art Workshop, attendees use stencils and watercolour pencils to create vibrant autumn leaf compositions on watercolour paper, blending colours to achieve unique results.

The Sea Scene Art Workshop combines collage, stencilling, and watercolour techniques on coloured card, to bring seascapes to life. For nature lovers, the Botanical Printing Art Workshop offers a chance to print real foliage onto dark card using acrylic paint, producing striking, nature-inspired prints.

The Robin Collage Art Workshop teaches participants how to create a charming 3D robin collage on a green card background. Finally, the Cards Workshop uses watercolour techniques and natural elements to design handmade cards perfect for every occasion..

All materials are provided.

Arts & Crafts, with Marji Cunningham

MTU Kerry North Campus, KSA.

1-2pm, Fridays from 21st February 2025 (6 weeks)

Over 6 weeks, get a creative and hands-on introduction to a diverse range of creative activities, for participants of all skill levels.

Explore hand-building pottery, crafting items like mugs, soup bowls, and oil burners, or dive into ceramic painting to decorate cups and bowls with vibrant designs.

For painting enthusiasts, learn acrylic techniques to create detailed canvas art or experiment with watercolors for beautiful, translucent effects.

Discover the art of pen and ink drawing, focusing on abstract compositions and application techniques, or have fun with decoupage and collage, blending various materials into unique creations.

Beginners can also try knitting, creating a cozy winter scarf in garter stitch.

All materials are provided.

No previous experience is necessary — just bring your enthusiasm and a willingness to explore!
