Instinct And Feel - Mark Making by Philip Murphy

This exhibition is of both figurative and landscape art in oils charcoals and pastels.

The figurative works express my understanding of the interaction between musicians and the audience - the space between which the music happens - notes, chords, instruments, sounds, beats, rhythms, harmonies and melody - and translates to the audience and the integral role they play in the musical experience and expression. The feelings of experiencing the music

The landscapes are is directly inspired by Kerry in particular - the mountains, field patterns, colours, hues, air and light and expresses the emotional reaction I feel for these places

I am inspired by how we make our mark on land - big or small, light, or heavy - and how we use the land but also the feeling that these marks are temporary and transitory as we move through the generations making a living off it while still dwarfed and to an extent rendered powerless by it. But the love and respect that we have for the land is not diminished.

The mark-making of one creation reflective of the other marks made…
