A powerful new theatrical work, The Weight of a Body, brings together a striking ensemble of artists across performance, sound, and visual design to create a deeply immersive and emotionally resonant theatrical  experience.

The production features a powerful cast including staff member Regina Crowley, and BATDS graduates James De Burca, and Michael Anthony Green, under the direction of Roksana Niewadzisz, bringing emotional depth and intensity to this compelling narrative.

At its core is the story of a woman caring for her ailing father after a stroke leaves him dependent and disoriented, drifting between past and present, reality and hallucination. Once her source of strength, he is now a figure of fragility. Without adequate resources or meaningful support, she is pulled deeper into the isolating and relentless world of caregiving—lost in a labyrinth of shifting realities. Along the way, unexpected encounters emerge: a fortune teller, a Russian, perhaps even an angel, blurring the boundaries between the real and the imagined.

Through a dynamic interplay of performance, sound, audiovisual elements, and light, The Weight of a Body creates a landscape where memory, responsibility, and surreal interruption collide with tenderness and urgency.

Written by award winning playwright Victoria  Szpunberg, and presented in its first English translation by Helena Buffery, the play introduces an exciting new voice to English-speaking audiences.

Running at 75 minutes, The Weight of a Body is a poignant exploration of aging, dependency, and love—an urgent reflection on care, resilience, and the fragile systems that sustain us.
