Over two full days, undergraduate and postgraduate students from Department of Fine Art and Applied Art and Department of Musicianship and Academic Studies will participate in a series of workshops, a FLUX Lab.

Workshops will take place with students at the Cork School of Music (CSM) on Thursday and Friday during the daytime.

As part of the FLUX Lab activities, two evening events are open to the public:

Thursday 12th February at 6:00pm – A free screening of Philip Corner’s Piano Aktivitys at The Guesthouse, Shandon. Limited space, first come first serve.

Friday 13th February at 6:00pm – The Fluxus artists will present a Fluxconcert in the Curtis Auditorium at the Cork School of Music, featuring works from the artists current European tour alongside new pieces developed by our students during the workshops.  All are welcome to attend this free event.

For those interested, the work of this group of artists is featured in a recent podcast, Radio Fluxus: Stories from the Fluxus Archives. This episode explores Philip Corner’s iconic Piano Aktivitys, from its controversial 1962 premiere at the Wiesbaden Festival to a recent interpretation by artist Sean Miller of Corner’s later score Piano Aktivitys as a Disciplind Destruktshun (2022), which Miller orchestrated and performed in 2024 as part of the Fluxus in the Swamp exhibition in Florida, U.S..

In the episode, Miller reflects on the evolution of Piano Aktivitys and on the challenges of interpreting a historical Fluxus work today. More information about the work, the artist, and the narrator is available on the episode’s website:
