EXCITING TEAM OF INTERNATIONAL ARTISTS COLLABORATE TO EXPLORE THE MYSTERY OF TIME AT THE CORK MIDSUMMER FESTIVAL

19TH-21ST JUNE, STACK THEATRE - MTU CORK SCHOOL OF MUSIC, CORK MIDSUMMER FESTIVAL

Step out of the rush and into a world suspended. Time and Time Again is an immersive sound, music and theatre installation that premieres at the Cork Midsummer Festival this month, inviting you to slow down, listen deeply, and reflect on the mysterious flow of time.

This is the third collaboration between Cork-based artists Gabriela Mayer (pianist) and Regina Crowley (theatre maker), following on from the acclaimed Notes to a Star and Prometheus Now

This installation blends poetry, music, lighting and architectural set design to create an intriguing space, expertly weaving fragments of poetry and text from Borges, T.S. Eliot, Oswald, and Rovelli with piano improvisations and classical works by Scriabin, Piazzolla, Villa-Lobos, and J.S. Bach.

A 45-minute aural and visual experience, Time and Time Again is layered, intricate, and meditative,  inviting the audience into a place where memory, sound, and silence converge. The event opens Thursday 19th June in MTU Cork School of Music, Stack Theatre and plays until Saturday 21st June, with three shows per day at 4.30pm, 6pm & 8.30pm.

The project boasts a team of home grown and international creatives that includes award-winning Cork actor Éanna Hardwicke (Lakelands, The Sixth Commandment), whose voice features in the piece, as well as UK-based Greek architect-artist Anastasia Karandinou (Counterarchitecture, UEL), creating a rich, multidisciplinary work.

Time and Time Again’s creator, Gabriela Mayer, said: “Inspired by the idea of a time labyrinth, this collaboration explores the intangible connections between artforms - the spaces in between, layers of memory, dream and reality. A space to contemplate the enigmatic nature of time, personal and universal.”

Collaborator Regina Crowley says: “We live in time but rarely get a chance to observe and investigate what this means. Music is an innately time based medium. Many writers have tried to address and capture this most compelling aspect of all experience. Time and Time Again creates a space for audiences, time beings, to explore this elusive dimension.”

"Time and Time Again is supported by funding from MTU Arts Office "Create Le Chéile" Project Award which has a particular focus on developing bold, dynamic, interdisciplinary, projects that celebrate MTU as an arts rich technological University and that connect MTU with arts and culture organisations and communities across the Southwest region. It is exciting to partner with the Cork Midsummer Festival to bring this new work created by MTU staff, alumni and international collaborators to audiences as part of this years festival programme."  Sarah C. Morey, MTU Arts Officer.
